Supra-Badge 1:
Professional Foundations in LDT

As a student in the Learning Design Technology program at Purdue University, my first 'Supra-Badge' was achieved by demonstrating competencies in four areas displayed below. Projects highlighted below provide insight into my training, understanding of concepts, design skills and my experience with specific technological tools.
Design Learning Assessment
Challenge 1: Acquire and apply new technology skills in ID practice.
Artifact: Animated Presentation using 'Videoscribe' software.

Reflection: A 3-step project was completed to achieve the 'Presentation Tools' badge.
The Videoscribe animation displayed shows animated summary of a seven minute long standard presentation, highlighting key points. The animation improves audience engagement and retention of information.

Challenge 2: Write and edit messages that are clear, concise, and grammatically correct.
Artifact: Job Aid Summarizing Learning Theory Model
The theme for this project was to develop a job aid summarizing the 'Gerlach and Ely' learning theory model using a horoscope theme. We were also asked to assign a suitable 'sign' to the learning theory model, similar to a horoscopic narrative.

Reflection: Upon studying the elements of this learning theory, I developed a narrative of Gerlach and Ely as a 'Sea-Captain' who navigates with learning objectives as the final destination.
This project displays creativity and understanding of concepts well enough to summarize them in a succinct manner.

Ethical, Legal, and Political Implications of Design
Challenge 3: Comply with organizational and professional codes of ethics.
Artifact: Successful completion of the Responsible Conduct of Research course.
Reflection: This course provided me with a deeper understanding of organization policies and their application in the ID world when handling sensitive data.

Applying ID Research and Theory
Challenge 4: Explain key concepts and principles in the field of Instructional Design.
Artifact: Small-scale literature review. For this competency, I completed a literature review on the subject of microlearning and its impact on instructional design.
Reflection: As instructional designers, we are often tasked with conducting a review of literature to assist SMEs in their role of presenting complex learning materials. This project demonstrates skills as a professional writer summarizing relevant peer-reviewed articles upon review of available research.
